Syrian and Eritrean refugees to arrive in 2016

The first group of refugees from Syria and Eritrea is to arrive in Poland next year.

Poland has pledged to receive 2,000 refugees by 2017 as part of the European Union’s intake programme.

The Ministry of Interior Affairs announced that they will be arriving in groups numbering no more than 150 people and procedural matters will be settled in the refugee camps in which they currently live.

When they arrive in Poland they will be offered medical care, adaptation courses, language classes and schooling opportunities for the children.

The European Union will reimburse the costs incurred by the Polish authorities to the tune of EUR 10,000 per every refugee from the Middle East and EUR 6,000 per refugee arriving from camps in Italy and Greece. (mk/jh)
